If you haven’t heard, there have been several sunscreen recalls from Johnson & Johnson (Neutrogena and Aveeno aerosol products) due to the presence of benzene. This comes just a month after a significant study from The University of Notre Dame revealed that about half of US cosmetics contain toxic chemicals, leading to serious health conditions such as cancer.

If you’re feeling frustrated, you’re not alone. For the majority of my life, I heard how important it was to stay out of the sun and use sunscreen due to the risks of cancer. Unfortunately, I did end up getting skin cancer back in 2013 but I was also extremely deficient in vitamin D, which exacerbated some medical issues. So, how do we find a happy medium between getting enough vitamin D and protecting ourselves from sun-related risks? BUY SAFER PRODUCTS! Honestly, if we have learned anything at all in the last month, it’s how important it is to carefully vet the products we ARE putting on ourselves and our family’s bodies. Literally, our health depends on it.

W definitely don’t want to be lathering our bodies with a toxic, cancer-causing chemical compound such as benzene, so I wanted to share some of my favorite safe sunscreens* to keep you and your families protected during the hot summer months:

  1. Earthley Sun Shield
  2. Coola Classic Sunscreen Stick SPF 30
  3. Badger Clear Zinc Sunscreen SPF 30
  4. Young Living MIneral Sunscreen Lotion
  5. Babo Botanicals Clear Zinc Sunscreen SPF 30
